The wax we use is more sustainable for the planet by using a blend of Non-GM Coconut and Rapeseed wax so it seemed the right way to have all the wax melts wrapped plastic-free also. You will find the wax melts wrapped in glassine bags.

We use a UK supplier which is also a small business and the glassine bags are sustainably sourced which is important to me.
What are glassine bags?
They are made from cellulose, a natural material that is derived from wood pulp. Cellulose is a renewable resource, and it is biodegradable and compostable.

Plastic Waste
In 2021, 2.5 million tonnes of plastic packaging waste were generated in the UK. 44.2% of this waste was recycled, while 25% was incinerated for energy recovery and 28% was sent to landfill.
The UK government has set a target of recycling 50% of plastic packaging waste by 2025. However, this target is unlikely to be met, as the amount of plastic packaging waste generated in the UK continues to increase.
There are a number of reasons why so much plastic waste ends up in landfill in the UK. These include:
- The lack of infrastructure for recycling plastic. Currently, only around 60% of local authorities in the UK have the facilities to recycle plastic packaging waste.
- The difficulty of recycling some types of plastic. Some types of plastic, such as polystyrene (Styrofoam) and plastic film, are difficult or impossible to recycle.
- The cost of recycling plastic. Recycling plastic is more expensive than landfilling it.
The UK government is working on a number of initiatives to reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfill. These initiatives include:
- Introducing a deposit return scheme for drinks containers. This will encourage people to return their drinks containers for recycling, rather than throwing them away.
- Introducing a ban on single-use plastic straws, stirrers and cotton buds. This will reduce the amount of single-use plastic that is used in the UK.
- Working with businesses to reduce the amount of plastic packaging they use.
These initiatives will help to reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfill in the UK. Recycling plastic is a good thing, but it is not the only thing we can do to reduce plastic pollution.
